Lily Cox-Richard received her BFA in 2001 from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, and an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, in 2008. She was a resident in the Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s Glassell School of Art, as well as at the MacDowell Colony in Peterborough, NH, Kompact Living Space in Berlin, and others. She has received numerous grants, including a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship and a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan’s Society of Fellows. Her work has been exhibited at Hirschl & Adler Modern, New York, NY; Denny Gallery, New York, NY; Artspace, San Antonio, TX; She Works Flexible, Houston, TX; and Vox Populi, Philadelphia, PA, among others. Cox-Richard’s body of work The Stand: Possessing Powers has been shown widely, including at Hirschl & Adler; Paul Mesaros Gallery at West Virginia University, Morgantown, WV; University of Mary Washington, Fredericksburg, VA; and the Hudson River Museum, Yonkers, NY. Most recently, the artist completed Raw Powers, a published work of art commissioned by the Archives of American Art Journal for their Spring 2018 edition. The artist is based in Richmond, VA.
