Nooshin Rostami is a New York-based interdisciplinary artist and educator born in Shahroud, Iran. She immigrated to the United States to pursue her graduate studies, but soon after her move, she found herself in a place of exile and uncertain of the possibility to return to her home country. This displacement shaped the core questions of her practice. As a multidisciplinary artist, Rostami works predominantly in performance, installation, and sculpture where a series of abstract forms mutate into an amalgam of objects, constituting personal, social & political narratives. Within metaphorical constructions, she explores the traits of forms both liquified and structural to negotiate the relationship between some seemingly paradoxical concepts of human state: stable versus uncertain, controlled versus unruled, and static versus fluid. Rostami has widely exhibited and presented her work in solo and group settings in Austria, Canada, Germany, India, Iran, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the United States. Her work has been featured in a number of publications such as Jadaliyya and Ajam Media Collective. She has participated in residencies both locally and internationally such as BRIC, NARS Foundation, and Tifa working studios.
