4200 Boulevard St. Laurent Montreal, Quebec, Canada

September 27, 2017 – September 26, 2018

Time Equities Inc. Art-in-Buildings is thrilled to announce the exhibition of Trame a site-responsive installation by Josée Pedneault in the lobby of 4200 Blvd. St. Laurent in Montreal.

Designed as a long-term installation, Trame refers to the structure, backdrop, or connecting threads of a larger system. As with all her work, Pedneault began with an investigation. The subject of her exploration at 4200 Blvd. St. Laurent started with the history of cultural of migrations on the Plateau Mont-Royal, but expanded into histories of design, materials, and decorative elements like the Portuguese’s azulejos tiles still visible in the neighborhood. Trame uses the pattern of the rhombille tiling – an isometric projection of two reversible perspectives – to create a wall-based vinyl work, backlit by glowing light boxes. The modular pattern was chosen for its universality: it is a timeless decorative design found in the history of visual manifestations of a variety of cultures around the world. The abstract imagery recalls 8-bit video games, expansive flow charts, architectural structures, and futuristic construction techniques. The work develops the more a viewer engages with it and is a deft intervention into the busy lobby space.
